Toys for Under 3 Years Old

Children learn and develop more in the first 3 years of life than at any other time. The toy market is constantly flooded with new and exciting products that are stimulating and educational. It’s hard to make informed choices when considering Toys for Under 3 Years Old

Some things you might like to keep in mind are:

  • Can the toy be used in different ways? Can my child take things out of it, put things in it, pull it along, push it, build it up, knock it down, roll it along?
  • Will it last and grow with my child? Our range mostly consists of Wooden Toys that will outlast their cheaper plastic counterparts and adapt to play at a range of stages. A young baby will put a building block straight into their mouth to learn about the feel, texture and taste of the toy. As they develop they will play stacking games with the blocks, leading to building more complex structures. Now is a good time to start introducing other toys to combine with the blocks like wooden farm animals to make a zoo. Now lets put the stacking rings that they played with as a 1 year old next to the animals as food and water troughs.
  • Select toys that help to develop motor skills, coordination, logical thinking and problem solving. Playing with toys enables babies and young children to understand themselves and the world around them. They are developing pathways in the brain that are being strengthened every time they watch or do things, often over and over again. During tummy time, roll a rattle in front of your baby – they might track part of it’s progress. Do it again and again and the baby will start to track the progress earlier, listen to the noise it makes and want to grab it. It’s the repetition that helps the brain understand what is happening. Simple toys allow the child to focus, understand what’s going on without too much distraction and be ready to move onto the next stage. Shape sorters, puzzles and peg toys are just some examples of toys that help to develop spatial relations skills, hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Australia has high standards when it comes to toys, especially toys for children under 3 years of age. The mandatory standard AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2002 for toys for children up to and including 36 months of age came into effect on 17 December 2003.

We only sell toys from Australian distributors who comply with the Australian standard so you can rest assured that everything in the Toys for Under 3 Years Old range is safe for your child.
